Fostering with Kitten Rescue

Fostering is a fantastic way to make a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Over 95% of the animals that we rescue live in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted, making foster homes the lifeblood of our rescue and our most important resource!

Under our foster program, medical care (e.g., spay/neuter, leukemia/FIV testing, vaccinating, and all other medical needs) are covered by the organization. All a foster parent needs to do is provide food, litter, love and the effort to find a loving home for her or his foster kitties. How involved you want to be is entirely up to you; we will never ask you to take on more responsibility than you are comfortable providing. Every little contribution to the cause of fighting animal homelessness makes a difference, and we truly value each and every person who is willing to open up their home to an animal in need.

Kitten Rescue is located in Los Angeles, and our foster program is best suited to people who live close to both our adoption locations and to our partner veterinarians. If you aren't close then fostering with us can become a logistical challenge, and you might want to see if there are similar no-kill rescue groups closer to you that are in need of foster homes.

Prospective fosters should start by filling out our Foster Application. We hold mandatory foster training sessions 1-2 times per month, where foster homes learn all of our medical protocols and adoption policies and procedures. For people interested in bottle feeding kittens, we do hold training sessions periodically throughout the spring and early summer, or individual instruction can be arranged.

If you have already rescued a cat or cats and are looking to place them but don't plan on being any further involved, then you might want to consider our Community Foster Program instead of becoming a full-fledged foster parent.

Since 1997, Kitten Rescue foster parents have rescued and placed well over 12,000 cats and kittens. Fostering can be challenging, but it is fun and immeasurably rewarding. If you love cats, and have the time and space to provide for an animal in need, we'd love for you to join us and help us in our quest to reduce animal homelessness.
